Me too as above im afraid, save your money or get a remap.

The anolog tuning box's are very crude in the way that they work. Some claim to contain a specific 'map' for that vehicle. Then there are the digital versions but these are big money, infact about the same cost as a bespoke remap, so why bother?

With the resistor box's Ive heard of all sorts of problems, overboost, black smoke and limp mode being three.

Actually the chip will be the same but it will be holding a different set of parameters. However, there will be other changes made in order to handle the extra power which may include different valves and seats, heavier clutch, bigger brakes, different ratio gear box to name but a few possibilities.

Plus of course if it's original it doesn't invalidate the insurance or warranty.

Bit of both. Some it is just the map on the ECU, Which maybe down to emissions or insurance. Or to help the car last longer.

More power potentially a shorter life on clutches etc.

But as above, Sometimes there are a lot of changes and not just the ECU. Different turbo or injectors or pump etc...
