colly27 - we had an older Musketeer years ago, late '70s model I think. We used to tow it with a Renault 20TS, and it was a very light caravan to tow. Behind the Renault it was very stable and good mpg despite being petrol. With the torque available from the Focus, I would echo Tentz's comments and say it would be fine.
Enjoy!
Pete

Whats the caravans gross laden weight?

It maybe 850kg fully laden. This figure seems to ring a bell for some reason.

So your close to its loaded limit already. And you said you dont have a gas bottle.

The car will be fine though. But dont overload the caravan.

the only thing on plate is 960kg but thats been stamped into plate and old number centre popped out.Spoke to local caravan repairers about it and it may have been done by factory years ago so not sure to be honest as cant really see plate well due to years of paint on it and cant find anything on internet about tham and when i think about it, it could be 5 berth not 4 if that makes any difference

That could well be right as the Musketeers are very light. Our Coronette (which is now at the dealer traded in, waiting for the PDI etc on our forthcoming Sterling Topaz) is - sort of - loosely based on the Challenger, which comes out at a lot more, is only 1100 MTPLM, yet to look at it one would think it would be a lot heavier.

These are the towing weights I've been able to find based upon the details you gave.

Towing Weights For The Ford Focus Hatchback (98-04) 1.8 TDCi Zetec 5d

Kerb weight: 1293 kg's
Un-braked Manufacturers towing capacity: 0 kg's
Braked Manufacturers towing capacity: 1300 kg's

75% of Kerb weight: 969.75 kgs
85% of Kerb weight: 1099.05 kgs
95% of Kerb weight: 1228.35 kgs

You car looks fine to tow it from this. If you give the model as well we could be more accurate.

Best of luck with it.

Old number centre popped out?   Not sure what you mean by that?

960kg seemd a lot, 850 - 900 would be my guess.

Just be careful that you dont overload it.
