I think the Adria altea is also a lightweight van (i could be wrong), most manufactures base model vans are  lighterweight van as they have fewer mod cons and have less storage space. check out the bailey discovery i'm not sure what year they made them but they were light vans

The Caravan Club Lightweight Trailer Awards always have a conventional caravan category in addition to trailer tents etc. You can see the results for 2012 here and there are links on that page to the earlier years (2008 onwards). Might give you one or two more vans to look at.

Awesome information here thanks guys.

Heres something i do not understand though there is a site called UK Tow which basically tells you what you can and what you cannot tow but i am not sure its correct. when i put in my vehicle i get the following:

http://www.uktow.com/caravans.asp?tc=1180#123

Which is a list of loads of caravans but it seems to take the MiRO and not the MTPLM figure. Is this correct? Help. Confused.com

This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for me.

If my towing limit is 1180kg, does this mean that i can buy any caravan with a MiRO under this amount and use whatever difference in the caravan?

For example a Jubille Envoy 4 Berth (just an example)
The MiRo for this one is 1063kg does this mean i can tow this (I think i can) and fill it with 100kg of stuff?
The MTPLM of this one is 1285kg but i dont know the relevance of that in my case as i wouldnt be able to pull it at that weight?

In nutshell yes you could theoretically tow a van with a MIRO of below 1180kg and load up to your cars towing limit .
Although if your going down that road be very careful what you load in your van as you could end up exceeding your cars limit

Dont forget the vans real MIRO may actually exceed the brochure figures.

This is the problem when your trying to push the limits. Things can go badly wrong.

Looked at the Freedom caravans?

Yeah i had a look at the Freedom ones but we really want something that sleeps 5 otherwise someone will be out in the awning which we really dont want.

Still a bit confused here to be honest, going to see an Adria dealer in Hitchin on Saturday as we are interested in the Adria Sportline DK which has an MRO of 1166kg and seems to tick all the boxes as far as layout goes etc. The car will be able to tow this and we will have a few kg spare as long as we dont put anything in the van.

The next issue is can i put everything i need in the car and how to find out what the limit is or does it really matter?

cripes even more i dont get now.

1180kg is what i can tow

Gross Train Weight of my vehicle is 3130kg which i guess is everything added together.

Unladen my vehicle is 1530kg

1180kg + 1530kg = 2710kg

This leaves 420kg for everything else

Not sure this is going to work

I am a man with a plan, how does this sound

1. Buy caravan
2. Buy Mini
3. Squeeze whatever i can in the mini
4. Take picasso & caravan myself
5. Everyone else in the mini

Need to get a second car at some point soon anyway

Workable?

I tow with a mondeo 2ltr tdci tit x hatchback car weighs in at 1705 kgs and i tow a 1500kg 6 birth coachman, running at around 87%  which is fine, Brilliant towcar and car in general.

I used to have a S Max before that was a brilliant towcar why not get shut of the picasso and get a s max if you need a 7 seater
