Hi all, I have a query regarding my towbar. I currently tow a Bailey pageant moselle (max gross weight 1285kgs) with my crv 2.0 se sport. All my weights seem fine and it's a really good tow, however, my towbar seems pretty low to the ground in comparison with my alko hitch and regardless of how I load the caravan there is always a slight nose dive on the van? Would a long neck towball make any difference?? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

The centre of balls height should be between 350mm and 420mm.

The towballs are the same height to within a few mm.

Slightly nosedown is good for stability.

Your CRV being a 54 plate will have the lower noseweight limit of 60kg which cannot be exceeded , something to be aware of .
Later CRV's have a higher limit of 100kgs

I think the best thing for me is to buy a nose weight gauge, that way I can be certain.

The towball on my 55 plate Crv is also low, but I have visited 3 tow bar places and all 3 have measured my towball and it is at the correct height
.
I have been advised of what I could do but it would raise the height and also make it illegal aswell.
Another option given to me was to remove the jockey wheel when towing as its this what is most likely to scrape on any speed humps but refit it before unhitching it from the car!

Double and treble check the noseweight.

Stiffer rear springs maybe? Although these seem to be harder to get these days.

I lost my first jockey wheel because of how low the hitch sits, so I already remove it every time I tow now. I currently have fitted an anker tow bar and have been told they are very poor quality, I mean it doesn't even cover my spare wheel so to hitch up I have to remove the wheel cover! The towbar shop said it can be replaced with a longer bar, the one they showed me looked like a swan neck which would clear the spare wheel and sit slightly higher but at a cost of £200! Thanks for the feedback everyone ;)
