Hi all
I have a bailey Pegasus 534 and a seat alhambra 2008 140bhp model
I have checked tyre pressures on car and van also nose weight with a milenco gauge
all towing weights are well with in the 85% rules

I got on the m4 at chippenham and headed towards bristol the car feels light on the front and very twitchy above 50mph feels like the van is pulling the car from side to side
I get on the m5 at bristol and every thing changes the van feels stable and i can cruise along at about 60 mph with no worry's all the way down to exeter
i get the same on the return journey car and van are fine til i get on the m4 at bristol where it all becomes twitchy til i get off at chippenham any body got any ideas to whats going on or had the same problems along this stretch of motorway

I don't use that stretch of the M4 so I don't have any experiences like yours. I wonder if it's a wind problem, the M4 runs east to west and as we've had a lot of northerly and southerly winds lately this may give a different feeling when towing. The M5 runs in more of a north to south direction so the wind would feel different.

I experimented with the tyre pressures on the Galaxy and it tows best with the rear tyres pumped up 3psi harder than normal use, it might be worth trying that on the next trip.

I agree because the M4 runs east to west you do get winds hitting the side of the car and caravan, we have experienced this along different parts of the M4 South Wales, Bristol and especially around the Bath, Newbury Reading areas.

It could be tramlines caused by HGVs this will have the same effect.

It could well be the 'tramlines' as there is a couple of places on the A14 where it is possible to notice the instability where they exist. The problem is Highways Agency tend not to put warnings up for them unlike in Holland where there are frequent warnings in the Rotterdam area. The 'tramlines' are difficult to see in most light conditions and it is only when water lays in them of the sun is low in the sky and they form shadows that they become obvious.
