Do any of you guys have one of these big foot /eurotch etc jockey wheel caravan movers??
my van is 678k unladen and to be honest its still not the easiest of things to move around.
Looking at 2nd hand motor movers on ebay, I come across a few of these type of movers,at half the price of a conventional set of movers, and they dont look that difficult to fit. eg. just replace jockey wheel and wire up.....simples!!!
Mmmmm!
Save your money and buy a mover that connects to the chassis and drives the caravans wheels.
The hitch mounted ones are limited and have many pitfalls.
Watch some of the reviews and you see them standing on the front to get extra traction.
Someone posted a link to one recently that had tracks instead of wheels. The guy was standing on that and still seemed to have issues when moving onto grass on a slope.
Video then cut to him moving away from the slope.
Most people buy motor movers to solve one problem that they have, like getting the van in and out of an awkward place, then, like me, they find that they are useful in all sorts of different situations like on a site or manoeuvring just about anywhere.
So save your money and buy a proper motor mover.
I started with a second hand jockey wheel type, used it once and sold it on.
Since then I have used only the proper ones.
I have never had the need to fit a motor mover but if I had to for any reason I would only opt for the type with the rollers that connect to both tyres simply because it manoeuvres by remote control so you can visually see every corner of the caravan. The type you fit to the 'A' frame such as the Big Foot model is manually controlled by hand at the front so visually you are restricted somewhat that the chances of a collision will be far more likely.
I have no experience of motor movers so can't offer advice on best makes etc. unfortunately but if you start a new thread with your question you will get a good response as many people on this forum do happen to have motor movers fitted to their caravan.
I have had 4 different makes of caravan motor mover and, hand on heart, I cannot say that I am over enthusiastic about any of them.
They are all over engineered and therefore over priced.
They are all over complicated and therefore prone to failure. And when they do fail it is when you need them the most.
However, health wise I do need to have one to get my van into my garage and sometimes on a site, but I wish I didn't have to rely on it as much as I do.
I would be gutted to spend what is a lot of money to me, only for it to fail without doing much hard work.
Hence my question, is there a particular model/models to leave alone.
