I have a Land Rover Discovery and Avondale Quantock which has have max weight 1100kg - want to buy new Alko hitchlock but am put off by conflicting advice
Please can anyone advise any pitfalls I should avoid - more worrying when looking on ebay where people say didnt fit my caravan - Why is that?
There is the 1300 hitch fitted to our van and it's MTPLM is 1300kgs too.
It was already on the van when we bought it, but as technology moves on, I'm not sure which hitch you would need now, as I'm not sure if you can get the 1300 hitch now....?
All Alko stabilisers are bolted on to the 'A' frame exactly the same way by two horizontal bolts and the hole centres are identical so fitting either the 1300 or the 3004 model is the same. However, the 1300 model is applicable to caravans with a maximum MTPLM (fully laden weight) of up to 1360 kgs. but only dampens from side to side (yaw movement) whereas the 3004 is designed for caravans over 1360 kgs. but will not only dampen sideways but also up and down (pitching) hence the huge difference in price as there are more friction pads contained in the coupling.
