We have 4-3 08 model diesel and it tows our little freedom as one would expect, we find it an excellent 4x4 but if you can stretch to an 09 onwards it have the updated engine

We tow with a 58 plate RAV4, 2.2D4D.  Tows our 21ft Lunar (1300kgs) superbly, and has returned between 34 and 43mpg towing, and 50 plus solo.

I've read about them not carrying a spare wheel - is it the same for all models/years?
I'm looking for something that will be economical when not towing so your figures sound good.

I think its generally the lower spec models that have a spare on the rear, and the higher spec ones have a compressor and can of gunk instead. Thats what we have, but doesnt bother me much TBH....if it did, then Id buy a spare to chuck in the van :)

The ones with a spare wheel on the boot can be troublesome with the towball height, and the rear door doesnt open as far as the others.
