We are looking at changing our 8 year old van for a new Lunar Cosmos 524. Is has side dinette / bunks. Our youngest is almost 9 and grows like grass, we are wondering if a top side bunk will be okay for the next couple of years?

I would take a look at Adria vans, their bunks are wider and longer than all others so better for the children.

Check the weight limit on the bunks, At 9 years old they maybe a bit much for them.

Just found the recommended limit of 57kg or 9 stone.

We have the Swift Challenger Sport 586 and the weight limit on the 2 top bunks is 11 stone, plenty of growing years for the Grand children yet.
