Which way? A483, which looks like it has hairpins!? Or the A470. Eight miles further but looks less wiggly.
Any experiences appreciated.

There's not much to choose between them. They are both pigs of roads in their own way. Just allow plenty of time to get where you are going because it will take twice as long as you think! Especially from Monday with the Royal Welsh show being on.

I use the A483, think it is a lovely road with some cracking views. There are a couple of minor hills and a few twisty bits, but nothing taxing. Biggest problem tends to be the odd local bumbling along at 25mph, but there are overtaking opportunities even with a van on the hook.

Nothing wrong with the A470, just seems to have more HGVs.

Down to personal preference, really.

I live there, would say A470. Always accidents on the A483!
Traffic will be horrendous on the 483 as the Royal Welsh Show on this week!

the 483 is a cracking road....on a motorbike.

i dont think you will have many problems with a caravan unless it is huge. but you may have a queue of disgruntled bikers behind you. but if you have to get from newtown to llandridnod you dont have many choices. i would say though that the 470 has some dualled sections where cars and bikes can pass you, its also wider and straighter. before my caravanning days i have followed caravans along the A44 to Llangurig from aberystwith direction on my motorbike. it kind of spoils your fun but it didnt ruin may day. if you pull over to let other road users pass once in a while if there is a queue behind they will be thankful to you and perhaps not get killed trying to overtake you.

I live in the area, and would advise the A470 every time. It is much flatter and other than the short section just beyond Llanidloes is wide and easy to use.

Could someone advise on my query of Builth (Fforest Fields) to Pembrey?
Google maps say A483 to A40 then A484.
Is that OK with the van on the back?
Thank you.

Been another thread asking the same question earlier, however,
The road through the centre of Builth is a bit crowded but easy with care.
The A483 is no problem.
The A40 is no problem.
The A484 is no problem.
