M40 down to Bicester, A34 down to Winchester, M3 to Southampton and M27 into the New Forest and then local roads to site.

Just watch out for the poneys when you get off the m27 and head thru the forest, we had a bunch of them run across the road in front of us just as we went across the cattle grid!!
Can't help you with a route thou.
Sorry.

The other route is leaving the A34 at Bullington Cross onto the A303 then off there onto the A343>A30 through to Salisbury. Then leave the Salisbury by-pass on the A338 down to the second Fordingbridge run off; Sandy balls is then a mile away.
This route is a mile longer than that via the M3/M27 to its end at Cadnam, then crawl across the forest on the B3079/3078.
One avoids the snarl up that can be the M3/M27 interchange and the crawl across the forest, but the other can mean a bit of a jam getting round the Salisbury by-pass. "Six to one half dozen to the other".

When at Sandy Balls a visit into Salisbury has IMO its charms, if doing this I highly recommend using the P&R bus from Britford on the A338.

Edit: I would recommend to resist the temptation if using the M3/M27 to hang on using the A31 through to Ringwood then north up the A338 to Fordingbridge; it can go like clockwork but it can be very different.

The A34/M3/M27 is dual carriageway right to the point where the M27 ends into the A31 but where you leave it onto the B3079/3078 [Cadnam]. The B road is poorly surfaced for 2 to 3 miles, its bumpy wrecked by heavily loaded waste dumper lorries. Just that first part then it is fine. Throughout it is 40 mph Forest speed limited. It not a problem just tedious, bumping about over the first bit, the more tedious I suspect after a long haul. I do it very regularly and just accept it.

The alternative route A34/A303 is dual carriageway till you come off the A303 at Andover onto the A343 then it becomes the A30. Here right to coming off at Fordingbridge its almost without exception normal "A road" single carriage way with a lot of dual white lines.
On a light traffic day its the second choice, its slower going, but if things are busy it has its merits relative to the route above. Through Salisbury it can be a bit of a jam but usually a moving one and effects only a small part.

From passing Newbury you ought to get a signal from radio Solent FM 96.1, week days it has quite frequent traffic warnings so could keep you informed of any hell on the lower part of the M3 and M27. Presently there are awful delays at busy and not so busy times due to road works on the roundabout feeding the M271 just aft of Rownhams service station, leading to stacking up on the west bound lanes of the M27; towing you don't have the total freedom to ease past much of this in the outer lane. The issue is worst weekdays compounded with the commercial dock traffic coming off here.

Hope you have a nice time down in our patch.
