Just bought a 2010 Volvo V70 D5, 2.4. Found that my Golf Plus had grown a bit crampt on the return from Cornwall. It was an outstandingly reliable vehicle and towed our camping trailer on the motorway with ease. Hope the Volvo can match it.
Although I have been in tents for years I am starting to think it might be time to move over to a caravan.
We stayed in a 5 berth for a few days, many years ago and the notion of 2 zones at each end is appealing. Our son could set up at one end and we at the other. Using the awning for meals etc.
The stories on this site however about build quality and dampness scare the sh** out if me.
I have the winter to think about it.
There are lot of scare stories like anything else you can buy. Depending on your budget I would buy from a main dealer as you will have at least a small amount of comeback. If buying private be careful, do a thorough check of the caravan and paper work. There are mobile repair companies that will carry out a condition survey for you once you have found a van you like.
There are plenty caravan's for sale so take your time and you will find a good one.
Also forgot to say check the kerbside weight of your car and it's towing limits. This can sometimes help shortlist your caravan as no point looking at something you will be unable to tow.
Thanks Wobbly box. Only 1 real local company here and lots to check out. I will be making enquiries with like minded folk at work and start with them. They are the kind of people who know what they are about. The adventures continue.
Think there is the prospect locally to store it in a large barn. A colleague at work does that so it stays dry all winter. She said that there are always vacancies. I have space at the side of the house but would rather it wintered under cover.
The other costs are just part and parcel of life really.
