Hi
I have just bought a (new to me) Mondeo 2.0 titanium X.
It's the hatchback model and has a towing capacity of 1800kgs.
Our caravan has a max weight of 1410kgs so should be a good match.
Anyone else tow with the mondeo ?
Looking forward to trying it out but it won't be till next year now :(

Really pleased with the car so far.

You don't say whether it's a diesel, but yes, Mondeos are fine towcars.

Ford has a reputation of having 'generous' towing limits, however it's a much safer option to relate the car's KW to the caravan's MTPLM.

I would think your car's KW will be ok for your caravan's weight, but I certainly wouldn't tow at over a 100% weight ratio.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure!

Hi
Thanks guys
The car is diesel
I know about the recommended 85% rule and will be taking it to a wieghbridge to check.
I have looked into it and think it should be a good match and I also never tow the caravan with a empty car.

Our old car was a toyota avensis which has a low tow weight which is one of the reasons for changing it.

Hi pencamper I have a 2011 mondeo same model as yours (hatch) I can tell you my cars kerbweight on a bridge is 1705 kgs

I've used the Mondeo to tow a 1500 kg van with no issues and for the last 6 months its been towing a 1560kg van again with no issues. Estate is 20 kgs heavier.
1410 will be a doddle for your car enjoy it its a brilliant all round car

Thanks Bessie

I thought it would be something like that.
Waiting on the log book coming back as a rough weight will be on that.
Loving the car so far and with it being the titanium x it has more toys than I know what to do with... Lol
Can't wait to start towing with it :)

Like Bessie I have used a Mondeo for past few years and think they are great towcars, unfortunately mine is now getting to an age where I need to change it.

I don't like the new versions as much but that's nothing to do with it's towing capabilities, I am still trying to get to like them but am swaying towards the new Insignias at the moment.

Please look at the VIN plate for the towing capacity, rather than the V5. The V5 on our Mondeo 2.2 ST diesel estate said 1800, as do most Mondeo V5s. However, the VIN plate gives a gross car weight of 2190, and a gross train weight of 3750, making the max towing capacity 1560. So, if you towed the 1800 as shown on the V5, with your car also loaded to the max, you'd be well overweight and illegal. The figure shown on the V5 is the manufacturer's recommended max, and can differ considerably from the VIN plate. The VIN plate would take legal precedence if you were pulled by VOSA.

From memory, the kerbweight of the Mondeo is also 1560.

Having said all that, it pulled our Lexon (1450 mptlm) like a dream, and was pretty good on fuel too.
