Picked up an 09 Citroen c5 2.2D tourer last week and so far really pleased with it. Got far to many gadgets on it and still finding new things on it that I didn't know it had!!!! It has the self levelling suspension set up on it which is completely new to me on cars. My question is when I hook the caravan upto it, do I raise it to the highest adjustment, or just leave the car to work it out for itself?????
Hi andy
Leave suspension alone ! unless you have to change a wheel !
To check it's working ok switch motor off & stand on rear end ! It should rise on its own ! & then go back to were it was when you take weight off ! same at the front ! The c5 has a electric pump which is live all the time unlike the bx which had a mechanical pump !
Hope this helps ?

there are specific speed restrictions on using the suspension height settings (as distinct from the self levelling system)Ie you are restricted to 6mph at the maximum height setting Like wise also on the low setting
self levelling is automatically done by the car as it detects the loading & raises & stiffens the suspension accordingly
IF YOU NEED TO JACK UP THE CAR AT ANY TIME ie CHANGE A WHEEL ,YOU MUST RAISE THE CAR TO ITS FULL HEIGHT BEFORE YOU DO SO FAILIER CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS WITH THE SUSPENSION
Does anyone know which resorvoir it is under the bonnet and which is the best type/kind of fluid to use to top it up with??? Feels a bit spongy sometimes so just wondering if it needs a bit more fluid running though it??
My Diso 3 andbook says when hithing up a heavy trailer or van, do it with the engine running? My not be relevent to a C5, but i do it both ways engine of and on. still levels out. and working on it ie service or changing a tyre it states upper tail gate raised, lower tailgate full height to be raised. then its in service mode, bloody computers want getting rid of !!!!!!!
Done what you said Steve, stood on the back end, the car went up and when I got off it settled back down to normal position. Found where the fluid goes and wanted to check the level but the whole reservoir is black, what's the easiest way to check the level or if it's working ok just leave it. Just feels a bit spongy at times!!!! Maybe it's just the roads!!!!!! Just wanted to make sure it's all ok before I put the caravan on in a couple of weeks!!!!
Hi andy
Sorry late reply !
Without lifting bonnet on OH's motor can't say the colour of the reservoir ! but don't think it's black !
Think you have to take top cover off !
Then you get to res ;clearish in colour if memory serves me right ! if it is low make sure you get the right oil for it ! DO NOT get green oil that's for the bx model get brown that's for the c5
don't get to thinking that the cap at the rear nearest to the windscreen is for oil it's not it's for your radiator ! but unless they have changed it I'm sure you take that cover off & res is under it ! will have a look in morning to make sure

Hi Steve, found the reservoir at the front left as you open the bonnet. Looks like it's the LDS orange fluid. Can't find any min/max markings though, what's the best way to check the fluid level?
Hi Andy, I was told by a mechanic with over 40 years experience working on Citroens, only use Citroen Fluid, it is more expensive but the cheap stuff can damage the seals.
All the best,
Andy

Yeh thinking that myself. Says on the reservoir total LDS is the one to use? Trouble is I'm struggling to find the min and max levels to know if any, how much to top up by. Any ideas?????
Re fluid levels, drop suspension to lowest setting, remove reservoir cap and look inside there is a plastic plate about 4cms down. the fluid should be just covering this plate.
