Hi, we are quite new to caravanning & have an old 1991 Abi Award Globestar. We haven't got a lot of money to spare but have our eye on an old Mitsubishi Shogun V6 and also a Citroen C8. Just wondered if anyone had any experience/thoughts on either of these? Thank you.
Year - 1991

A diesel saloon or estate 1,9 or 2.0 litre will tow your van, why go to the expense of getting a fuel guzzler if funds are short,Skoda Octavia , Superb or even a Mondeo or any of the other VW group vehicles, will tow your van
This may surprise you and everyone, what about a black cab, fareway or TX1 both with the bulet proof Nissan engine.
due to the stupid 15 year are limit, there are loads coming onto he market, fit an extra seat in the front, and a tow bar and you would have a big storage area in the back, it would tow a much larger van as well, and be a talking point at your shows.
Don't forget these cabs have been well cared for and stripped and rebuilt almost every year for the London taxi inspection, auto and manual available
first check weather the model you are looking at has a chain and not a belt if its chain and i think it is its designed to last the lifetime of the engine
if you choose a car that needs a cam belt change, consider this by reducing the purchase price.
Belt change prices can varey a lot but expect to pay APP £600 + at main dealer for the c8, or app £420 at none mail dealer,
This price will include fitting of a new water pump.
Shogun's have cam chains. But what you may need to change is the top chain 'guide'.
DIY 20min job - just lots of nuts to undo and then redo....
Andy, I have the 'normal' Shogun, but even I wouldn't have the Shogun Sport version!
And even me personally (now), I wouldn't have another! They rust badly causing 'other' problems on the way, so if your budget's limited, find something else....
