Hi, wondering if can clarify for me I have a vivaro crew cab for work purposes and I'm wanting to tow my Hymer Nova with it but can't go over 3.5 Ton because I currently don't have B+E on my licence, as long as my outfit doesn't exceed that am I ok? Or will they just go off the values on the VIN plate? Thanks
I am going for my B+E test but failed the first test for entering a 30 zone doing 35 but was just wondering, I knew the police would go off the plated weight but once they had for me to actually be breaking the law surely they would have to weigh me and if I came under 3.5 surely that would mean I am legal???
I'm not sure if that is the case, Geoff85. I believe that if the combined plated weights come to more than 3.5 tonnes, then that is an offence in itself. I don't think they have to weigh anything. However, I am no expert, and that's just what I have always believed.
Gross weight of a Vivaro is at least 2700kg. This means your max caravan gross weight without B+E can only be less than 800kg. For licencing law you use maximum allowed weights not actual weights on weighbridge, so non starter without B+E.
Construction & Use law uses weighbridge weights.
Licencing law uses max gross weights now known as MAM, ie max allowed weight.
