Hi all I'm new to caravaning and I'm looking for some advice. I usually go camping, but I'm looking to purchase a touring caravan . I never passed my test until 1998 so Im limited to the weight I can tow . I have a new diesel Mitsubishi Outlander which weighs 2260kg is there any light weight vans out there or do I have to take a new test

If the figure you quote is the max allowed loaded weight of car then you can tow a caravan of around 1200kg mtplm on your existing B licence. How it works is that the max allowed loaded weights of car & caravan added together must not exceed 3.5tonnes.
So not actual on road weights but the max allowed loaded weights if you understand what I mean.

Max caravan MTPLM on your B licence is 1240 kg
That should give you a good range of caravans to choose from

how ever if you go to France your car is limited to 90kph on motorways & duel carriageways & 80kph on ordinary roads this is because it has a gross train weight in excess of 3.5 ton & you are towing .it doesn't matter what the trailer weight is

He can't tow over 3.5t as he hasn't the license for it.
