Hi all, just back from our long summer trip and already looking to plan next years.

As ex forces who served in and around the Northumberland/North East area we would like to go back that way next year.

Its quite a trip so would be looking to break it up, I know its early but Prior Planning etc etc. So was wondering does anyone have any recommendations within close proximity to the A1/M1. Ideally no more than 30 mins off the motorway as don't want to go to far off route just for the night, also site itself wouldn't have to be top notch as it would just be an overnight rest/stop.

Also just out of interest do motorway services offer overnight stops have hook ups etc?

Hi, assuming you will take M5, M42,A42 to pick up M1, have a look at camping caravan club Kingsbury water park site 10mins off M42 if that.

it would depending on where abouts I south wales your travelling from and where in Northumberland your first site would be, assuming Cardiff to Alnwick you would be looking at around chesterfield being half way point, before I go looking for sites let me know where you are and where your going too

I'm thinking from south Wales, let's say Cardiff area....

M5, M40, M42, A42, or A46. Onto the A1, and then either turn off the A1 at Dishforth onto the A19,or just carry on up the A1....

We did Orchard Park, Tuxford to Wythall CC site a few weeks ago, and IICR, that's the roads we used. (except for the M5 bit..)

what about boroughbridge? has several that are just off the motorway but has a very nice c&cc site which you don't have to be a member to use but pay a little more for

Bob,

Done the journey many times previous without a van and never done it under 6 n half hour what with traffic etc so doing it in 6 with a van would be impossible.

M5 doesn't go anywhere near South Wales.
M40 goes from London to Birmingham via Oxford, so again nowhere near South Wales.

We were on the M40 very briefly before turning onto the M42 northbound...

But the M5 would get you nearer into South Wales than other roads surely if you then picked up the M50...?
