AA is more specifically designed for the car, whereas Apple's is a row of icons like the phones. That aside, they work then in similar ways.
Via a USB connection, the car uses the phone and displays Maps, Phone, and Music on the car screen and through the car's speakers, with supporting apps curated for auto (elf n safety etc - so no Netflix ).
Maps and online music like Spotify etc will require a data connection. With the move away from roaming charges and toward workable data caps that's not a problem for many. For Zeebrugge to Lake Como this year the cost was included in our tariff, but if I'd had to pay, it would have been £30 for the two weeks. That was daily Google Map use, plus FB, WhatsApp, calls/txts etc. But NOT streaming.
For us, meant we could effectively have satnav built in and controlled by the car by voice or the steering wheel whilst still saving £600 and the future cost of map updates. Can't speak to Apple Maps, but GM does real time traffic updates - very handy - and you can voice ask Google searches.
There's an older third party system called Mirrorlink. It only works with android and as its name suggests, it simply mirrors what's on the phone, giving more choice of app for the given situation.
i have a 2011 outlander GX4 manual with the 177bhp 14N4 engine.
for a 1400kg caravan it will be fine.
i Tow a 1600kg caravan with mine and as far as power and torque are concerned its excellent. However, these days it doesn't feel sure footed when towing especially at 55mph (faster is fine). i am trying to get to the bottom of the problem but so far have not had any sound advice.
i used to tow my slightly shorter and much Bailey ranger MLPM 1280kg with it and it was fine.
now i am towing 87% on Mass in service 93% on kerb weight.
the Outlander says it can tow 2000kg with a nose weight of 100kg. I had to fit MAD Spring assisters to mine as with a modest nose wight (55kg) it was very low on the back.
i am sure there are better tow cars than the outlander out there. but solo it is a very nice car.
dont discount the vauxhall Antara or chevrolet captiva. my neighbors tow a 1780kg twin axle with an antara. the captiva has 7 seats and is slightly longer. but essentially the same car.

What is there to hate, and how on earth can you not drive an Auto! Autos make far, far better tow cars as long as it has a suitable engine with a decent BHP. I have a 2.0 TDI 180hp Ford Kuga 4x4 Auto, towing about 1375kg. Absolutely fantastic, would not swap it for anything............OK, a top of the range Range Rover would do it!
Try a Sorento , ours is 187 bhp.and loads of torque, latest are 200bhp.
We test drove a Sorento KX4 which is top spec auto model. it was fantastic, so we are considering a KX3 which is slightly lower spec or a Hyundai Santa Fe-which is essentially the same.
Our current 2012 Sorento has done 39000 miles, is a brilliant towcar and very reliable. Fuel economy good too.
Both Hyundai and Kia have excellent warranties so I would not entertain a Ford or GM product with 3 year warranty.
We had Vauxhalls for many years (wifes company cars) none were trouble free and I did not rate their customer servîce much!
