I currently have a 2.2 deisel auto and am due to change it.The new crv has a 9 speed auto box. This seems to me to e excessive when towing and must always be changing gear. any comments

I had a 2.2 diesel auto CR V until about 2 months ago, we had an extended trial in the new 1.6 auto and did not like it as much as the 2.2ltr It was nice and smooth but seemed to be changing gear too often, however it can be used in manual mode using the paddles behind the steering wheel, at 70mph it was still in 8th gear and would not let me go into 9th, presumably because I was not going fast enough. It also seemed to roll more than the 2.2ltr when cornering and OH only rode in it for about 3 miles and felt a bit queasy.
We eventually bought a Mazda CX 5 sport nav auto (6 speed box with manual facility), rides quite firmly but a very good towcar in my opinion. Also a bit less expensive than the CR V and just as well equipped model for model although I believe Honda will give a bigger discount.
