Hi there, we have recently had a tow bar fitted to our mondeo 2 litre tdci and shortly after had the glow plug light flashing and went into limp home mode. The garage has checked the codes and it showed an issue with the turbo. Had this fixed then happened again. This time code showed fuel filter prob. Had this fixed, but yesterday light came on again (not good as this time towing our caravan up a hill) just wondering if the wiring from having the tow bar fitted could cause this?
A frien do mine also has a Diesel Mondeo (2006 Model)
There have been issues with them, but not caused by the TowBar electrics.
The service department using the diagnostics equipment, don't know what item causes the problems, so they replace a number of items at a cost of £2,000.
Not funny at all.
Regards James

It seems unlikely. Towing will use more fuel, create more heat, more soot, and maybe more EGR use which might just have flushed out any nascent problems with the fuel and emissions systems.
I also had a light come on a while back while towing; it was the fuel filter, which was due for change anyway and that cured it, never to recur.
This suggestion will split opinion, but I would also be using Shell V-Power diesel. Judging by the noticeable effect it had on DPF regeneration frequency on my last car (Outlander) it creates about half the soot/particulates of the regular diesel. That won't help a poorly turbo but it might help enough to make a difference between having DPF/EGR problems and not if something is on the edge. If you don't fancy paying the extra 9p/litre for V-Power, I'd try using Millers Dieselpower Ecomax for a few tanks full. Double dose it the first couple of times.
Not sure if I am allowed to name companies on here. It was fitted by a well known Web based company that sends out local fitters so it would be a non specific tow bar and wiring loom
We have had the problems before we started towing. It does seem to be when the turbo would kick in. Local garage said changing the turbo would fix it, but suggested trying other options first as it's so expensive. Now resorted to speaking with ford, but not entirely convinced even they will get to the bottom of it 1st time round. And they cost just for the diagnostics
Personally I always go to main agent for repairs & servicing. Past experience is they may cost more but they correctly diagnose the fault and fit the correct part first time. I'm lucky we have good main agent near us.
Works out cheaper in the end than the try this try that merchants who are just guessing.
Not all main dealers know best. We had engine light come on our Peugeot 307 whilst away. The local dealer to where we were diagnosed blown turbo and quoted £2500. Luckily it was still under warranty and they took it back on a low loader. All it was was a sooted up egr!!!
I had similar issues on my old car although not a Mondeo, the glow plug light issue ended up being a battery fault, and the stalling/limping was a blocked egr valve, google it I blanked mine off and it ran ok.
OK. Latest is, light came on and car cut out going up hill. Took it to ford who have diagnosed turbo fault, fuel valve fault and possibly injector fault. Hmmmmmmm. I could have guessed that without plugging it in, so still none the wiser. Don't really want to get all that done when they don't even seem too sure it will solve it
