Going to change my car , 160 miles away in a couple of days.
The dealer has arranged for my private plate to be moved to the new car. He said when I go to swap cars I should put the original plates on my current car, I dont have them.
My current car is a white Kia Sportage, I am changing to a white Kia Sorento.
So, should I chance it and leave my private plate on for the 3 hr drive?
Should I do a couple of DIY plates ?
Do I shell out £25 and have plates made up?
I'm tempted to chance it.
What's the fine and possible points on your licence??

How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Just drive yours , and when you get there the dealer can remove them, nothing wrong as its still registered under your name and the new car is not on the road yet
Its not getting stopped but if you have an accident you give your insurer the chance to waltz away. SO drive with the utmost care and watch for idiots.
Though I have done worse.....lol

I'm in the same position as you. I pick my new car up next month. My plate was put onto a retention certificate and when I received this in the post I took it down to the dealership. The following day I received my new V5 for my current car stating the new registration number, I then put the corresponding number plates on my car - supplied by the dealership. I then rang my insurance company to let them know the new reg plate (£19.50 admin charge)!!! If you go onto the 'check car tax' online DVLA page and put your private plate in it will show you which car is "correct". The only problem I can see if you don't change your old car back to the old plate is if you have a crash or get caught on an ANPR camera but as both cars are similiar you could get away with it. Personally i'd put the correct plates on and notify your insurance company.
The easy way to do it is once you have the new car just call your insurance before driving off the forcourt , telling them you want it covered from now, this saves you canceling it until you have the new car

Or, as I have found out with my last two new cars, the dealer will arrange insurance for up to a week on new car.
