Hi For the additonal payload weight for a small family of 3 for 2 weeks holiday is 200ks of weight enough or would need to be looking at 250 the car im thinking of getting for van is ok with 200kg but may struggle with 250
What ever the allowable loading weight on the plate near caravan door do not exceed this. Going over this risks invalidating insurance if involved in accident. Also police do spot checks for weight on certain random holiday routes.
Hi
If you are talking about the challenger you have just bought it only has a maximum payload of 184kg, if you need to carry more than this you will have to put it in the car.
I have seen this done by VOSA (now dvsa) on the M5 at 10pm.They had hauled quite a few caravan outfits in for spot checks .Strensham services was the venue.
Dont forget that the van may actually weigh more than the plate on the doors shows.
If your pushing the loading limits to within 50kg then you need to rething your outfit.
A 1000kg caravan could be 5% heavier than the paperwork shows. Some manufacturers may have a higher margin of error.
My handbook states weights could be plus or minus 5%.
I have commented before a letter written to a caravan mag said their expected 250kg+ loading margin was actually just 60kg. The vans MIRO was way off and left them no loading space for their personal items.
