Hi, I'm waiting a new company car that unfortunately wont be with me by my holiday, so i'm stuck with using the current which is a 2017 Astra Sports Tourer with the 110HP 1.6 diesel, towing my Lunar Venus 1180kg. I've checked weights etc and its under the limit etc, but worried about the lack of power/weight compared to my previous tow car etc.
Basically i'm hoping someone will tell me i'm being a tow car snob and get on with it :)
or do I need a rethink?

You could check the comparability on the Caravan Club site if you're a member of on What Towcar.

Hi Rathbone
I tow a bailey Ranger 470/4 (got about the same towing weight as your caravan) with the same car (elite nav model)
not had any trouble with power its about the 85% guidance
weight / ratio and returns about 35-40 MPG which I dont think is to bad

I also tow a Bailey Ranger 460/4 1184kg with a Alfa giulietta 1.6 diesel 105 bhp although the Alfa does have more torque than its rivals at 320nm. I have never had a problem its very stable and pulls well, I think yours will be similar

It will manage. As you say, performance will be less than you're used to and be prepared to be able to use 6th gear only on downhill runs. But provided that you're not planning to tow thousands of miles across Europe, is that really such a problem?

It may be different for the Astra but my Alfa pulls in 6th gear along all roads including up most hills, I have no interest in going round Europe but if I did im sure there would be no problem
