I used to tow my van with a 7 pin and had no issues. I had it changed over to 13 pin after 12 months, or so, and then had the luxury of cold beer when I arrived at my destination.

I'm going to pick the new van up on Thursday, going to use a converter plug. Opinion seems to be that it will work all the lights so the van is legal.

Got the car booked in to a towing specialist for rewiring on the 11th. Not going away until July so plenty of time to get it done.

I still use a 7 pin setup. I have never actually used the "S" plug, firstly because my caravan is a very old one and doesn't have any of the modern gadgets on it, secondly because someone has fitted a domestic fridge instead of the original 3 way one, and finally because we always set out with a fully charged leisure battery. I have never actually checked out the second plug's wiring either, and I wouldn't use it without.

We get round the cold fridge problem by leaving the caravan hooked up to the mains overnight before we go away, then leaving a couple of frozen ice-packs in it before we set off. Regarding the battery, we always go to somewhere with EHU because of the fridge situation unless we are only going for one or two nights, so the battery won't be a problem. Definitely not worth us converting our caravan and car to 13 pin, as then I would also have to convert my trailer too.

Best Regards,
Colin

Thanks for that. Looking forward to a newer van, just a bit sad to see the old one go.

We've had it 10 years and had some lovely breaks with it.

Not that it's totaly gone though, my son has taken it up to his grass airstrip where his plane and hangar are.

It's going to become kitchen/toilet/comfortable sitting place, so not entirely left us.

As I said, just sad to see it go, like losing an old friend.
