Hi Everyone, Thinking about changing my X3 and wondered if anyone is using a Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD for towing and what is your opinion on them? TIA

What year? A lot of Cherokees had problems with the rear differential, certainly up to 2010 models (WK) and the 2014-2015 models were subject to recall for gear shifter problems. I have driven a Jeep Cherokee and I have to admit that I didn't like it very much. The build quality was not as good as it should be and the vehicle was not anywhere near as refined and nice to drive as equivalent models from BMW, Audi or Land Rover. I would say that the build quality and refinement were roughly equal with the likes of Kia, Hyundai and Ssangyong but the vehicle is priced much higher than those brands. It will certainly do the job of towing a caravan without any problems, but there are much nicer vehicles out there the roughly the same money.

hi, ive owned the older shape cherokee for 3 years it was the 08 model, it was much cheaper to buy than a disco ( which is a much better car) apart from servicing it cost me nothin in my 30k ownership and it had 120k on the clock when i got it.

i wanted a disco 3 or 4 but they were double the purchase price, also a friend of mine bought a disco 4 with 130k on the clock and the crank snapped at 135k. It cost 3k for a second hand engine, thats what my grand cherokee cost me to buy, cherokkee is not the best car, but for towing its brill, but road tax is around 600 a year, have you looked at the x5 or the xc 90 both have lower road tax than the jeep ( i am refering to 2010 xc 90)

There is a vast difference between the Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee. We had a 2005 WK CRD Jeep and it was excellent and could tow anything up to 3500kg. Very comfortable.
In 2018 we traded it in for a later model 2013 Shogun which we kept for 3 months and the traded it in for another Jeep Grand Cherokee as Shogun was very heavy on fuel althouhgh bullet proof. We now have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD Overland Summit which has the air suspension. Really good at towing our twin axle with MTPLM 2000kg.
When we bought it, it had a full Jeep dealer service history and 45k on the clock. Very comfortable vehicle with many boys toys. It has now done 66k and when towing we get just under 23mpg. Around town about 28mpg and on a solo long haul we can get about 33-34mpg. If buying on make sure that it has a full service history and check its MOT record however this would apply to any vehicle.
