Not told anything about ISG at the dealer, never heard of it. Anyway, we wondered why it kept cutting out at traffic lights. Now we know about that Have also found out that it needs to be deactivated for towing. Deactivated, but no message came up. Now it won't reactivate and the orange light keeps coming on by itself. Any ideas please?
Stop start systems have been around for years so I'm surprised that you haven't come across them before. Can't you ask the dealer for some advice?
The owners club forum would be worth checking for help, just Google isg problems and you'll probably find some useful advice.
Thanks, we didn't have it on our 2016 Mitsubishi. I don't know if the dealer will be any help, but will of course ask them if we need to, and try the owners club.
We had stop start on our 2013 Focus and haven't really had any problems in any of our cars, it just frightens you when it stops the engine unexpectedly because you forgot to switch it off.
Common problems relate to battery condition or the wrong type of battery and diagnostic codes that have not been cancelled in the past. High and low temperatures also can confuse things.
Good luck, it's probably a simple thing to sort out.
Read the manual and check out youtube for any relevant videos. Deactivate usually means just pressing the switch to do so. The warning is usually an orange 'A' with a circular arrow.
In very cold weather don't be surprised if stop start doesn't operate often as the system is designed not to do so when there is cold weather and high demand for electrical items.
I've had stop start on vehicles since 2010 and just let it do what it does. Never had a problem with any of them.
OK, here we go!
I have a Santa Fe with ISG. In fact all cars after 2016, I believe, have the stop/start system to aid fuel consumption and reduce pollution.
It does not operate unless the battery is fully charged and will show the orange warning lamp. (Note that if it's not working/lamp on, this doesn't necessarily mean your battery is faulty or on the way out, just not fully charged). Your car will be more prone to this during this cold weather.
After running for a while it should operate normally.
I don't think you have the system turned off as you can't do this on a permanent basis, as its default position is on when you start the car and you must turn it off manually each time if that's what you want.
BTW, I do this every time I drive mine.
Hope this info helps.
------------- I came into this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
In this cold weather it is unlikely to operate due to the demand on the electrical system. Our Hyundai has it too but it doesn't often operate when we are towing if I forget to turn it off.

Read your manual, it says in there that it should be turned off when towing. I would have thought that having the engine cut out whenever you stop would be a nuisance, but we haven't tried towing yet, and won't be on 18th as all caravan security is frozen.
Of course if your car was smart enough it would disable it whenever the caravan electrics were plugged in to the vehicle.
A bit like mine.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I have this on my Golf & I love it. It’s one reason my car tax is only £30. But I love the quietness when all the cars waiting at the lights have cut out. Missing it at the moment because the weather is too cold. Even in the summer, I sometimes have to drive 20 minutes before it kicks in & it doesn’t when the diesel engine part is regenerating (that’s not the right word, it’ll have to do).
Personally I think it is a waste of money as whether you like it or not, it is fitted to the vehicle and you cannot deactivate it permanently!
When i come to a stop at traffic lights, stop street generally I apply my handbrake to prevent blinding the person behind me. Annoyingly when applying the hand brake and releasing the foot brake the engine starts again although you are stationery and probably not moving again for awhile. Defeats the objective of the system and probably uses more fuel!
