Hi, New to caravanning. Have just purchased a Freedom Colchester (old one so I can see whether I can cope!) Have a detachable towbar fitted on my BMW 1 series xdrive 2l s up to weight. Can anyone recommend a stabilizer without paying fortunes please? Also if I get one - who fits it etc or do I do it myself?
You mean the small Freedom caravan ? You don’t need a stabiliser. Just ensure you have sufficient noseweight which you will have with gas bottle in locker.
It’s 4 berth but not v heavy think about 900kg and only me and one and a half dogs (lab and sausage!) so fingers crossed won’t need one then as long as drive sensibly
Are you sure it's a freedom Colchester not a Fleetwood Colchester as I have never heard of a freedom with that name, they usually have names like sunseeker, Jetstream, microlite.
I have a caravan of a similar weight and I never use a stabiliser. I have had caravans for years, starting in 1976, and I have towed all sorts of trailers in a small business I ran back in the early 1980s, and I haven't used a stabiliser since I forgot to fit one to my caravan back in the late 1970s and didn't notice any difference. Load your caravan properly, get the nose-weight right, drive sensibly, and you won't need one either.
