Hello :)
I am desperately trying to work out what weight my car can tow - I have the gross weight etc from the VIN but can't find out what the kerb side weight is to do the 85% calculation. It's driving me mad because every list i find online doesn't seem to list my model!
Can anyone help? I have a 2009 Mondeo 1753cc zetec tdci.

Any help greatly received!

According to this below, your kerb weight is 1,526 Kgs.

https://www.parkers.co.uk/ford/mondeo/estate-2007/18-tdci-zetec-5d/specs/

But, in you V5 document it should show you kerb weight under the Mass in Service. If that say 1,526 Kgs, 85 % of that is 1,297 Kgs. Just say 1,300.

Check your V5 though.

Just a note of caution. You haven't said what the towing capacity (as indicated on the VIN) is but you need to be aware if you aren't already that exceeding this is likely to be illegal. The 85% ratio is actually much less important than this, because it has no legal basis at all and is simply crude advice aimed at drivers who are new to towing caravans.

To calculate towing capacity from the VIN, subtract the first number (which is the maximum permitted weight of the car when loaded) from the second (which is the maximum permitted weight of the car and a braked trailer combined).

I'd be very surprised if the towing capacity of a 1.8 diesel Mondeo wasn't well in excess of 1300kg, but it's your responsibility to make sure.
