Please can anyone advise on recharging a 12v car battery through the towing electrical socket using a 13 pin plug towing tow bar socket + CTEK comfort connect battery charging adaptor(see link attached).
I have seen such a cable adapter on ebay and wondered if it indeed works, does anyone have experience of this adapter? For info, I would be using a Ctek mxs 10 on a Kia Sportage via the normal 12v N inlet.
Any video link showing its operation would be appreciated.
It will depend on your electrics. Some vehicles electrics work for about a minute or so after the ignition is switched off and then shutdown. This is why you can't charge some vehicles via cigarette/accessory socket.
Have you thought about just buying a ctek battery connector. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ctek-CTE-56261-Direct-Connector-Adaptor/dp/B002OHN5NQ
I have something similar connected to my motorbike and the connector is tucked away securely when not in charging.
Thank you that's good advice, my cars electrics do seem to shut off completely after I have removed the key from the ignition barrel. I not seen this before but remembering I did get a connector in the battery charger kit when I first bought it a few years ago but I remember it went with the Evoke and was overlooked on its disposal.
They are not expensive as the towbar electric adapter so will source one through your link, thanks.
Just to recap, does the adapter I mention have any other downfalls? I note that they are no longer promoted on the Ctek website but wondered if they are any good or other?, does the convenience of the adapter have any other issues that are not mentioned. (basically remote private off street parking but with shared access discourages me from leaving a battery charger under the bonnet of the car if/when unattended for prolonged periods.
I have access to a suitable 240v electric source and within a lockable shed/cabinet to store the ctek device so I was thinking if I could plug something into the towing electrics, this accessory would be a solution to help keep my car battery charged fully during these colder winter months)
I will reconsider my options.
My 13pin socket supplies power to the Alco trailer control which is permanently live when plugged in without engine running or ignition on. I think its pin 9. Radio etc gets switched off after a short time with engine not running to save battery, very annoying.
If trying to charge a car battery from a car battery you will end up with 2 half charged batteries.
