We normally go (our storage is just off junction 16 M6) M6, M42,M40,M25 etc but on the last few occasions, traffic on M42 & M40 has been dreadful due to roadworks. I know M25 is always bad, got used to that but the other two have increased our journey time considerably! We’re thinking go across to M1 then M25 over Dartford bridge . Any thoughts, as not done this route for several yrs!

From north of Manchester we go M62/A1/M25 etc to the Tunnel.

Know what you mean about your route, we have just been that way to Berkshire, and some bits were awful.

First of all, we're in a MH, not towing, but we started doing the M40 - M25 route a few years ago, due to M1 - Dartford getting worse. But last year June we really got stuck coming back on the M25 - M40, lots of roadworks. So we now do the same as marg6 above. But we now also do it in 2 days, no longer in 1. It's 290 miles, which in itself isn't a huge distance with 2 drivers, but all you need is a big hold-up and you're snookered. So our preferred way is to go to Cambridge C&CC site for an overnighter, then from there to tunnel next day. The site is very conveniently located off the M11, we book the tunnel for around 2.30, that gives us plenty of time.

Don't forget that for crossings booked after the 5th of March this year, Leshuttle has changed it's T&Cs, and you now have to pay 20 for an earlier departure, if you're offered one that is. It also applies to changes of bookings before travel, I don't think it has been advertised clearly, it's all in the T&Cs though.....

Edited to say that coming back we normally book a Sunday morning crossing at around 9-ish, then drive home in 1. Did that at the end of June this year and went Dartford crossing and M1, M6, all fine at that time on a Sunday. Took nearly 6 hours, but that was with 2 stops.
