its been a while since my last posting, but i feel its time to give a brief update on life with a Skoda Kodaiq IV PHEV 2025.
We purchased in early Feb 2025 with a little apprehension about have a Phev and towing our van with it.
This being my first foray into EV vehicle, i had mixed feeling about it all.
first off without a home charger, trying to charge at public charge points is an absolute nightmare, half don't work or cannot be used with contactless payment, or god forbid in an area where cellular network coverage is also shocking. luckily I can charge at work.
typically during the warmer months i have seen 50 - 56mls on an 80 % charge and 76mls on a 100% charge. However during the colder months and feb 2025 and 80% charge was showing 40mls and 100% charge 54 mls.
the car is run mostly in EV mode with the Motorway Journey to work 10 mls in ICE mode on Hybrid. Both in EV and ICE mode you can easily traverse the motorway at the 70 mph speed limit. EV is responsive and ICE kicks in when needed.
realistically on an 80% charge and indicating 56 mls range, i can get about 45 easily without a recharge purely on EV. My commute is 26 mls / day and i can get 2.5 days just out of an 100% charge.
Fuel consumption works out at about 162 mpg, but running in ICE mode then typically 30 - 35 MPG around town and 48 - 55 MPG on a run.
Towing the van it copes with effortlessly our van is 1400 Kgs max, and we have recently returned 31 MPG towing 360 mls. We used the hybrid mode with the mode set to keep a certain amount of battery %age retained. On the motorway it seldom ran in EV mode. we set battery to 76% and after 180 mls had only dropped 2% when using EV whilst driving round rest stops/ services etc.
the car is large and feels large when driving, and you have a good commanding position on the road. Like with all new cars the electronic gadgetry takes a while getting used to, as it can be overwhelming.
One thing to mention though, we had a third party fit tow bar (why wouldnt we), then was informed by the fitting centre they could not code the electrics to the car!!!!, as Skoda VAG group has not released the software to third party fitters. it turns you must have a towbar factory fitted and much extra cost but they do code the car.
Now we have not had any issues with it not being coded, everything works as it should, and towing the van is not an issue.
Overall i am amazed at how much i now enjoy EV driving and the concept of Hybrid EV, i think its the better option. I ma also surprised at how well build the Skoda is, and levels of comfort after long Solo Journeys and towing also. Skoda aftersales and customer care is a bit of a joke but hey ho.
Would i have another Hybrid EV most likely , would i have another Skoda, again most likely.
I have not gone into day to day life with it, as you can make your on minds up.
hope this helps anyone out thinking of converting.
br
Chris.

Thank you for your very informative contribution.
I have a 2017 Skoda Kodiaq, 4x4 DSG, I bought it new, to pull our caravan, which now is a ELIDDIS AFFINITY 554. Each time I go into the main dealer for service and MOT,I ask about replacing the vehicle, which has done 26,000 miles, mainly used just to pull the van.
Each time they just say why bother, yours low milage, all the whistles and bells, electric tow bar, and 2 umbrellas,
Running cost's, road tax about £159.Insurance £ 485. service MOT, £300, then fuel. Towing 30 to 35 mpg. up to 40 mpg without. I find that reasonable, for the size of the vehicle.
I have been looking at hybrid or electric, but not convinced. My brother in law, he had a electric, car, changed it to a hybrid. He found in winter, the snow from the window screen built up on the bonnet, didnt melt, so got the hybrid because of the engine heat to melt the ice. Only what he told me, so cannot argue,
As a run a bout local, i have a micra.
