Hi,
My daughter has a 1300 kg caravan and needs a towcar.
Has a budget of £25k including her part ex.
I want her to get a lower mileage’ newest’ car she can afford.
I have always towed with a 2L diesel/ petrol.
Looking at Caravan Club Towcar awards for 2021/22/23 most of the winners seem to be some kind of hybrid/ electric.
There are a lot of MHEV for sale, low miles and only 2-3 years old at very reasonable prices. Is there a risk with buying one of these?
I know there is a risk with any car.
Thank you
I went to look at a FHEV Ford Kuga last weekend it was only a couple of days later when doing a bit of research that from 1st April cars with an OTR price of £40K plus when new have a luxury road tax premium of £440 for the 1st 5 years plus the standard road tax of £200 sticking with my 10 year old diesel Kuga
We have a Hyundai Tucson hybrid which can tow 1650kg. Our Bailey is max about 1430kg. It's a very good towcar, top of the range 73.reg.It was under the £40K limit so VED is lower.
Some 24 on models are subject to higher VED.
Plenty of space, powerful and well equipped.Economy good too.
There are plenty about, similarly Kia Sportage which have the same chassis.
Kia have a 7 year warranty,Hyundai 5 which is a good thing to have.
You can get petrol, mild hybrid and self charging hybrid (ours) They do plug in hybrids but they have a lower towing limit.

If she has the potential to charge from home, I would not rule out an EV. 25K will get a 73 plate AWD Polestar 2 with 1500kg towing capacity. Old enough to be under the luxury car tax kicker, but could save a lot in fuel depending on her daily driving needs.
