Hello I'm going from Seahouses to just below Filey in a couple of weeks and was wondering if anyone has towed that way before. The route thats come up is down A19 and then onto A174, A171 what are those like to tow on. I've looked at different routes including A! to York and across, anyone got any advice please ?

Not a region I know, so can't advise on roads I've never traveled.

But, a couple of things I always take into account, what approach do the camp site themselves advise? It's often the case that the approach from one direction is far more difficult than from the opposite direction, and a seemingly non-sensical longer overall route is the best if it gives the best approach.

Google Street view is your friend! It can let you do a practice drive without leaving home. Follow the route and see if any aspects don't appeal! Route planners/Sat Navs will give routes that are doable, but not necessarily easy! They also tend to prioritise shorter routes over longer but often the longer route is a much easier drive! Personally I always try and avoid long sections of narrow lanes where there may be passing difficulties or a need to reverse a caravan any significant distance!

A171 is the main route south from Middlesbrough, no issues towing, HGVs use it every day. Birk Brow Road south of Guisborough is a climb.

A1 and York bypass is an alternative, but the York bypass to the north of the city is a pain as its single carriageway with lots of roundabouts. A64 to Malton is fine, again a main route with some dual carriageway, main hill is near Castle Howard.

Looks good to me. I wouldn't go near York - usually busy and the A64 can get busy too. Not had any problems towing along the main coast roads... we were up there last year.

Indeed. Not one to attempt to tow up, hence plenty of warnings!

We went to Bridlington at the beginning of the month via York but it took us nearly 3 hours from Durham and was very stop/ start around York. Returned via A165 to Whitby then A171/174 which was a much better route.
