I tihnk I'm about to buy my first caravan this weekend, thing is it has a Bulldog stabiliser fitted and I was planning to have a Brinks detachable towbar fitted to my car (BMW 330d).
Ive heard that certain stabilisers can't fit onto detachable towbars, but will these two work out ok?
I recently bought a secondhand ABI Brightstar and the seller gave me the Bulldog 200Q Stabiliser bar and plate to bolt on to my tow hitch. The bracket, with the nylon block on which the spring leaf rests on, was already fitted on the 'van, but on the two occasions that I have recently towed the the van, the spring leaf has jumped off the nylon block when we get to site. Could it be that the nylon block bracket is not positioned the correct distance from the tow coupling. Does anybody know how to set the position correctlty our could there be some other reason why it jumps off? I tow with a Piccaso HDI 2 litre diesel ( I know that the type of car probably doesn,t make a ha,porth of difference, but just thought that you might be interested.
Dicky T, we had the same problem yesterday. We only picked the van up on Saturday and just took it onto the industrial estate to practice reversing and whatnot and just to get the feel of it. Anyway the spring leaf dislodged and we decided that what had probably happened was, as we had been reversing, we'd turned that little bit too far round and the leaf slipped off the block. I thought it may be too far away from the tow bar end, too, but when we looked it couldn't have gone any further forward because of the electrics. It is pretty hard to lift up to put into the block so I think it's fitted OK.
