We had a Freelander and it was the worst tow car we ever had, We did not have any mechanical problems with it but as it did not have self adjusting rear suspension it made us all feel car sick as we bounced relentlessly along. The fuel consumption when towing was appalling. Needless to say it went and was put down to experience.

They are now very old fashioned and there certainly are much better tow cars on the road.

Shu-be-do, as with most cars it depends much on how they are drove... on the Td you should get approx 18-21mpg round town, and upto 28-29 on the motorway etc,
towing on a run approx 20-23 is about average for the TD non intercooled, TDi get a bit more but the 3.0ltr TDi get approx 32-34 on a run.

Ive got the 2.7TDi (the one with the air intake in the bonnet) and got from Halifax to Cornwall last year through the night on a full tank, following my brother (in an Audi A4 towing) who had to fill up at Bristol.
