I have the Alko 2005 stabiliser and when pushing the red handle down every thing seems to be ok. I drive off and I stop for a break. I find that the handle has worked its way loose and at about 45 degrees from horizontal. I dont seem to have any swaying problems. Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem - At first I thought it was me not doing it properly or in my haste to get away noit putting it on at all.

Could it be that you have the wrong towball fitted?

When I picked up my new van this year, the dealer changed the towball as it didn't have the required clearance. I don't have any problem with the red handle coming up.

Don't take this the wrong way Chalkie but are you sure you're pushing the handle right down to start with? we've only just got ours so I've no experience with them apart from finding the handle very difficult to push all the way down. Just a thought.

Chalkie

Another one to watch for is the handbrake handle.

If it is touching at all the rolling of the van could cause it to push the alko handle up.

I would be suprised if it was that though.

Have you looked on the faq's pages at Alko or spoke to the dealer to see what they suggest?

Yup, you really do have to give it a knuckle barking shove to overcome the resistance.

I was getting a little paranoid - thinking it was me not pushing it down far enough. But next time out I will keep an eye on it. The towball (steve p) was the alko type fiited by Canwell Caravans. It does make sense that I may not be pushing down far enough because with spare wheel protruding and a bike rack off the tow bar it is difficult to get good leveridge - I think next time out I will push down by hand and finish of with my size nines.

We had the same problem a while ago

Don't ignore the handbrake suggestion-check for any marks on both the handbrake collar, and the hitchlock handle.

In our case, the handbrake was hitting the stabiliser & knocking it off presumably when braking.

We had it replaced with the 1300 no problems since

I have a hithlock for my alko with this comes a lockable pin which goes through the hitch and into the red handle if you have a look you should find this hole which im sure some kind of thin bar could be made to fit through this would keep it locked down
