Hi helpful people,

I was wondering if any body knew about towbars for a scenic. I am fitting one this weekend to my car. I just dont feel it is strong enough. By that I meen there are only six bolts that hold it on three either side not big ones either. one goes in the chassis one in the cross member where the bumper is attatched and one below that into a very thin plate. It is genuine Renault part but I feel it isnt bolted enough or strongly enough. It is for towing a trailer for camping but I would be hesitant if I was to tow anything larger. Can anyone have a look at theirs and advise me.

Thanks in advance.

Ian

hello roly!,

We have a megane scenic which is fitted with a tow bar, although it isnt a genuine renault bar it was installed by portland towing and secures in exactly the manner youve described. Our also has a detatchable swan neck so it does look a tad skinny n weak but that said its been a real good one and in the past has towed a trailer of tents n kit all over the country (500 kg) and now tows our caravan no worries the fixings are generally very high tensile fastenings made to withstand some enormous load before failure so put it to the back of yer mind bolt it on n get out there
