At the risk of stating the obvious...The CC TCOY of previous years are today's second-hand cars, are they not? So the TCOY of 1996 (whatever that is, I'm sure it's archived somewhere) probably still makes a great towcar.
And the competition IS split into price bands, with class winners at various prices. It's just a (sad) fact of life that the cheaper models are normally only heavy enough for trailer tents etc.
To accuse the CC of taking backhanders is breathtakingly apalling. I've judged a couple of CC competitions (not towcar though) and can assure you that the judging is TOTALLY impartial, extremely thorough, and blooming hard work!
One statistic that surprised me is that CC members spend...get this...£1.1BILLION per year on new cars. There certainly is the money out there... sadly not in our pockets! And where are the vans in TCOY? To me they really are the best... no way would I give up my trusty Trafic for anything!
