Bertie I think their car would struggle with a caravan of that weight and they would be well beyond the 85% guideline for new towers.

Don't know kerb weight of the 306 Caz, so I may be wrong on that score.  I towed the Whirlwind (1100kg MPTLM) with a VW Golf 1.9 TDI  The max. trailer weight was 1200kg and nose weight 50kg.  BHP was 90.

I admit it was fiddly to get down to the 50kg nose weight, and I did settle at 70kg (there is a good safety factor applied to manufacturer's spec).

The car towed without problems, even in windy conditions.  This was the first time I went back to towing after more than eight years on motorhomes.

But I agree, if in doubt, err on the safe side.
