Hi, our friends have a Mazda 6 not sure if it is the one you are asking about but I think it is a 2litre diesel, they like the car and tow a caravan I know they have to watch the weight but are pleased overall with it.
Had a 626, not sure if the rear suspension is the same as a 6. The 626 was the most reliable car I've had but was not up to the job of keeping a 1300 kg caravan under control so had to go. Pulled the previous caravan perfectly but that was only 1000 kg.
Same as Outlander; had a 626(GXi), very reliable and pulled 1000KG van without any problems - as to heavier loads, I suspect acceleration might suffer a bit unless you make good use of the gearbox...
Last August changed to Skoda Octavia 2.0 L diesel - now that does pull!
