Hi,

I currently tow with my Toyota Hi-Lux which is not up to the job. It is very poor towing and because it is my work vehicle, isn't the most comfortable vehicle when it comes to loading the kids in and dog in.

We are looking at upgrading our current Volvo v40, which is a lovely car but not heavy enough, for a Volvo V70.

I would like opinions/advice on your experiences of these cars.

The bigger Volvos generally make good towcars, we have had our 940 for almost 13 years, towing with it since 1998 and had no problems. Auto gearbox is good, we would never buy a manual. We have a detatchable towbar (Volvo/Brink) which is suitable for the Alko hitch.

We have a V70 and they make superb tow cars they are really up to the job the only downside is they make the outfit very long! You can certainly see us coming!! but we have no complaints at all as a towing car. We tow an Eldiss Avante 534 which is 7.2 metres long with a tow weight of 1415 KGs . Also they are a really comfortable car and you can get loads in the back!!

Try and go for one of the V70 D5 ones as I have just traded in a 2.4 V70(170bhp) for one. While the 2.4 would pull the van (jubilee statesman 1408kg) easily it did struggle on hills, so I have changed to a D5 for the extra torque on hills, besides the D5 is faster and more up to date (pick it up on Saturday)

I have been toying with the idea of the V70 myself. The tow match says its around 91% which doesnt bother me so I think I will go and have a look at a few D5 versions tomorrow.
