I have a 03 Kia Sedona 2.9 Diesel.   It lists the CO2 emission level as 217.

I am confused, will I have to pay the increase in duty -  £300 (and then £400) or do I escape this high charge.

Like 99.99% of us, you are not in 'Band G' because your vehicle was registered pre March '06 and therefore your V.E.D. increase is a massive 10p. per week (£5 per year)... So no need to panic and sell the car, caravan, kids etc...

My 4 litre V6 15mpg guzzler stays at £180. That'll do for me...

I suspect that there will be a temporary blip in pre-2001 used car prices a bit like there was when catalytic converters were compulsory. Back then it was more desirable to have a older non-cat model than a newer cat equipped model because of the fear of paying more for a new exhaust system if/when it needed one. The same thing will happen now over the 'fear' of paying a couple of quid a week in extra VED.

Following on from that, I found a 'Budget Calculator' on the BBC website and on rough figures it looks like I'll be a massive £0.28 worse off over an entire year following today's budget.
I'm gutted!!!
And it rockets to a massive £5.28 if I take a 2nd short haul holday flight...

Try it for yourselves here: CALCULATOR

We will be paying the higher rate next year as we just got a new car.  It has emissions of 239, doesn't seem fair that slightly older cars with much higher emissions should pay much less, but then very little is fair these days.  We will just have to pay up and save a little elsewhere.

Being a bit thick I am having a problem working it out.

My car will be a 2.0lt diesel registered 29 03 06. On the log book next to Co, it has the figure 0.101, what does the future road tax have in store for me? Also what band does the care come in?

Cancel that! Iv'e sorted it. I'm not as thick as I thought.
