If I bought the 16 to 13 converter shown in the picture, would this connect to a regular caravan power cable and then that cable connect to the electricity supply at the camp site.
I have a plug extension with usb etc, but noticed that the proper camping ones have RCD’s on them. What’s people thoughts on using an extension without RCD’s while camping, especially with the configuration described above.
Proper camping electric cables which incorporates an RCD are waterproof with a safety cut out protection switch which is designed specifically for the camping environment. The one shown in the picture wouldn't meet the safety standards so could be a hazard and a recipe for disaster especially in damp conditions.
What you plug into it is a bit academic - if you plug in 5v adapters or 2kw kettles the current in the cable is the same until its used.
If you are using EHU I would expect there to be an RCD at the connection to the EHU, so the vast majority of your risk is removed. That lead, however, looks too short to be able to run the "orange" bit inside a tent/van etc, so you'd need to put it in a waterproof (rated) box before running a lead off of it. Personally I have a belt and braces approach so I would ensure the subsequent lead has a proper RCD on it or at least put a plug in rcd between the orange socket and your subsequent lead - even then these options feel like too much of a compromise. More connections equals more risk.
I'd go out and buy a "proper" unit, and one with a lead MUCH longer than you think you'll need.
