.............and a chlorinated chicken in a can!
------------- I came into this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
I've just discovered that tinned potatoes explode in the microwave.
Yes I did take them out of the tin.
Anything in a tin can be eaten cold or gently heated in a pan.
Spam can be thinly sliced coated in batter and fried to make Spam fritters.
Corned beef can be crumbled and mashed into mashed potato then formed into cakes and fried making a hot and filling corned beef hash.
You could scrape all the exploded remains of tinned potatoes from the inside of the microwave to make mashed potato.
If you are carrying tinned food instant mashed potato is always handy, rice for tinned curries can be replaced with instant noodles.
Tinned stews and soups may seem a little flat, adding a little herbs de Provence may jest them while you are heating them.
Slice up a Swiss roll, add tinned fruit, add jelly (using the juice from the can) let it set, pour on warm custard, let it set, you have camp trifle.
Open can of fruit, share out among dishes, drink the juice left in the can, add tinned cream or condensed milk to all dishes. Server gets to scrape out the cream tin or drink remaining condensed milk making sure no one sees.
If cooking a tinned sponge pudding where the instructions tell you to puncture the lid before putting the whole tin in a pan of boiling water, it's best to follow the instructions. A boiled sealed tin can explode.
Make sure you have good tin openers as you have to open both ends.
Serve with lashing of hot custard.
Any Student / quick and easy / 30 minute meals / 2 burner / boat / campervan / caravan / tent will get you to where you want to be.
The best recipes tend to start with open a bottle of wine have a glass yourself then taste and quality don't matter any more
------------- Yesterday is already a dream and tomorrow is only a vision, but today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope.
If you like curry, rather than the cans which are generally very poor fare, find an Asian supermarket and find 'GITS' brand ready meal pouches. Loads of choice, daal, choli, paneer etc
Really good value at about £2-3 a pouch, rather than the £5+ for the camping pouch meals.
Ah yes, those tinned sponge puddings. I used to enjoy them when we were camping, but had to give them up as they were bad for my feet. I think it was the "stand in boiling water for ten minutes before eating" that was the problem.
There are more and more curries in pouches, seen them in an Asda in a big town in the "World Food" section.
Agree with Spam and corn beef being very good for camping; and instant mash is one of the starches that I carry, along with Basmati rice, cous cous, pastas and noodles.
I always carry a can or two of Campbell's condensed cream of chicken and/or tomato soups - very handy for the first meal after driving a long distance.

Tins of tuna. Great with the mushroom soup that DK uses, over rice or pasta; add extra mushrooms (wild field mushrooms maybe) & a tin of sweet corn. Tuna is also a great sandwich filling mixed with mayonnaise.
For any beef mince recipe (spag Bol etc, using tinned tomatoes), substitute a tin of green lentils.
I like the sound of the pouches as it can be impossible to recycle the tins when you’re away & they’re much lighter.
A meal I often prepare for us in the caravan that is quick and easy.
Tin of corned beef. Cut meat into cubes. Tin ratatouille empty contents into frypan and heat. Add corned beef. I usually mix a little gravy using gravy granules and add to the mix to moisten it more.
This serves well with a few potatoes, rice or just a slice of bread and only takes minutes to prepare.

Drain the top, runny liquid from a can of kidney beans, leaving the thicker liquid. Add tomato paste, chilli powder and self raising flour, a bit at a time. Mix until pancake consistency. Fry for 7 mins each side.
Oh my, Spam fritters - so 70s! That takes me right back. I have a sudden craving for Spam, now... Unexploded tinned potatoes could be thinly sliced and fried with chopped onions, bacon/ham/Spam etc; throw in some tinned sweetcorn for veggie input and shovel it up.
