Does anyone have any suggestions to provide 'darkness' for grandchildren who want to wake up at the crack of dawn? Colemans seem to have the answer but can't find any material light enough to maybe put on top of the existing Outwell bedroom.
Smothering, shallow graves ..... SORRY! Just my very 'dark' sense of humour rising to the surface! Children (partners, dogs, cats, neighbours etc. for that matter!) that awaken me prematurely are at some risk! Hotel 'Do not disturb' signs have been known to be 'enhanced' by 'friends' with added 'on pain of death!'
In practical terms, lightweight weed control fabric, black in colour, easy to cut to shape, seams joinable by multiple means if you are that dedicated, cheap! See, I'm not totally evil, I do have some user friendly solutions!

Oh we had a good laugh! Won't show it to my daughter though. Really good idea about the weed fabric, hadn't thought of that. Will have a look and report back.
Curtain lining fabric. I lined our previous MH curtains with it. It’s metallic backed, so it will reflect morning heat too. Choice of colours on the material side. Washable.

Is it heavy though Fiona? Looking for something really light really.

Like thin cotton? Your local materials shop will have some to feel or get a sample online.
A good independent garden centre will have the matting that was suggested, it comes in different weights / cost.

Do you think you could dye it??
It is very thin, don't think it would make much difference. Not the same quality of fabric as a more expensive tent obviously. Going to try and place something over the top of the bedroom next week.
Just had a thought - how about an emergency foil sleeping bag, rectangular shape you can cut open. Cheap!! Folds up very small indeed, light enough to carry in a rucksack (used to do this, decades ago). Must be durable enough to not tear overnight with a person moving about inside on a mountain ledge.

Ha, I like it! Might crackle a bit but will look into it more when we come back from our trip next week, thanks. Off to Caen Locks near Devizes for a week - hopefully doing a bit of walking too!
