hi new to camping and would like to ask about power kit for tent, i know the difference in amps i can use but the question is if i buy a 10 amp power kit am i still bound to 10 amp on 16 amp site.
this may sound daft but cant find 16 amp kit with rcd and mcd attached ?
as i say new to this so positive advice would be grateful.
Please correct me if I am wrong, however, I believe you are referring to an Electric Hook Up (EHU) kit.
As far as I am aware, 16A supply is for hardstanding intended for motorhomes (MHs) and caravans, and not for tents via an EHU kit.
EHU for grass pitches for tents is normally 10A supply. However, some sites have 6A. Therefore, it is best to check at time of booking to avoid disappointment.
You can hook up a 10A kit to a 16A supply; however, you won't be able draw 16A due to the limitation on your 10A kit.
I do not know of 16A EHU kit on the market.
Hopefully, the experts will come along soon to advise and to correct me if I am wrong.

I think you may be getting a little confused it’s the The Hookup post you plug into that will have a maximum rating ie usually 16amps in the UK but some are less.
The unit makes no difference you could use it in your house.
Bare this in mind when you plug things in as you can easily trip out the post if you are overloading it, you may also trip out your fellow campers ( yes I have seen it happen ). That’s why it’s best to use dedicated low wattage camping electrical equipment ie kettle , toaster etc etc
I would add that I wish we had purchased a 20m unit as the 15m one as linked to above was a little short on one occasion, but you can buy extensions.
So basically if the post is 6amps then that’s your maximum draw when plugging in equipment 10amp = 10amp and 16amp = 16amp maximum draw.
Hope this helps.
When I was a tenter, I had a 15m roller EHU kit, plus a 25m extension.
I had to use the extension on a handful of trips.
Still have that 25m extension for my van.

We camped in Scotland in September and only had 6amp EHU and it blew the trip when we plugged our kettle in, was interesting swapping all the electric items so it didn't happen again! We've now bought a travel kettle

I had stressed the importance not to assume the minimum EHU supply is 10A as there are still some sites with only 6A about.
6A was fine on a site next to a cider pub in October 2021 as part of a VW meet up for a couple of nights, and I did not need to use the air con being cold enough.
I survived on ciders and the food and drinks available to purchase at the pub and the barn where they had weekend entertainments.

Just realised one of the sites we were thinking of booking only has 2A ... !!
Where is that please if you don't mind sharing, so that I could avoid it?
6A was the lowest I had come across in UK and I would struggle with that!
Cooking aside which I could cope with ease by using a suitcase stove/Cobb/BBQ etc., however, when the weather is hot as I may not be able to put the air con on at night with just 6A supply!

The camp site is Foxhangers, Nr Rowde, Devizes.
On checking 'records' we did actually stay there last July but had used gas for cooking. Nice for walking up the Caen Locks to the pub at the top.
Would go again although facilities were a bit dated.

Interesting as it used to be 6A supply.
I live near that site and looked into camping there for short trips years ago when I was a tenter, and the 6A supply put me off.
