What about a cataplana - a portuguese clam shell shaped pot. Can be used with all heat sources including fires/embers to cook a variety of things. Google cataplana for numerous retailers. If you know any one holidaying in portugal this year I am sure you could pick one up in a supermarket over there.

From my mother's description of how she cooked bread using an open fire and a 'firebox' the cataplana certainly sounds similar

You cant use those ovens on an open fire, they can only be used on gas rings, I have one but its an older model.
