I understand what you are saying - but i checked and reckecked my guy ropes twice. I have been pitching tents for years and have never had an issue before. My pegs were completely in the ground (in the wet conditions i had you couldn't fail to get them in the ground) and at the correct angles. They have already agreed that the pegs aren't suitable for the conditions i had. So no matter what i did with them, they weren't going to hold.
I expect a tent that i buy to have the correct equipment to withstand the elements.
I bought a tent from tentastic through ebay. It is a rage tromso 8 man. Had no probs at all. The only little thing with them is that they never say when it will be delivered. Saying that all the info was right about the tent they did neglect to say that the tent really is only for summer use as it is not very waterproof, this i have found out be reading reviews!!!

You appear to have answered your own question here, if the pegs are easy to go in to waterlogged ground then they can come out just as easy, how can a retailer be held responsible for bad weather?

What...you expect a tent to come with a set each of rock pegs, standard pegs, sand pegs and double-length wavy V-profile pegs (the only type that would stand half a chance of holding in mud) plus perhaps a storm strap and/or Deltas for poor weather? That would cost more than the price of most tents!
Rule of thumb for most pegs that come with even reputable tents? Keep em for spares and buy some nice big butch ones. Wire pegs are mostly dross, and don't get me onto the type with L-shaped tops......
I would pursue your claim against them. You may have a gap from purchase to use but with good reason. If you can proove that this was the tents first outing, which should also be obvious from its condition, and that the winds were not strong then you have a case that it was not fit for purpose.
There are additional safeguards in addition to the 12 month standard guarantee. If you can reasonably expect goods to last well beyond the twelve months then you have a case to make. It may be worth pestering them. On the other hand depending how much you spent it might just be worth writing it down to experience and moving on, it depends on how much they have annoyed you.
How can he possibly prove that the winds were not strong?? How can a retailer be blamed for poor weather conditions?? A tent is basically a temporary shelter and most are not designed to withstand the weather that we have had in the UK the past couple of years. If you want a tent that is designed to withstand the elements then you have to pay for it.
If you would care to read my post I was stating that there are, in law, additional safeguards above and beyond a twelve month guarantee from date of purchase. I did not say that a retailer manufacturer can be blamed for poor weather conditions and never would. We had slight damage to our new tent this summer in what I considered extreme conditions but did not go running to the retailer or the supplier as I considered the tent stood up to them remarkably well, I will sort the repair out at my expense.
You can proove the state of the weather at any given time with a bit of research as detailed records are kept by the Met Office amongst others. The camp site receipt shows the date of stay and damage as does the purchase receipt of the new tent, all showing when the damage occured. I also mentioned about the strength of the wind as the original poster says that there was wind damage without stating how strong the winds were, hence I was covering myself in case the winds were strong and thus there would be no case to answer.
