Hope this isn't too late, but given the age of your children it might be an idea to beg or borrow some windbreaks so that you can barricade the kidlets in!

Just got back from lakes camping for for the first time, for 3 nights with 2 kids aged 1 and 4. Had a cracking weekend, forgot loads of kit that we should have packed (and saw loads of kit that we would like to have), just improvised on the day.

We kept warm and dry (especially on a night), the rest was just fun filled days. We found that people on site are more than happy to help you out if you get stuck.

Best bit of kit we took: small gas powered cooker (borrowed) to put a brew on in the morning.

Have fun!

We just returned from our first camp and we brought everything we needed. Some things that may have not been mentioned:

Bring some sort of rug for your groundsheet. This really helps keep things a bit warmer on chilly nights. I bought a cheap throw from an IKEA bargain bin for £2.

Also we brought a small dustpan and brush to sweep out the grass and dirt each morning. My kids thought I was nutty but I said "A clean tent is a happy tent" :o)

A dishpan was also a must item for us. We used it to wash the kids up in the morning and used it to take our dirty dishes to the 'pot wash' after our meals.

The best item we brought was a Kampa Khazi loo!! Definately worth £17 if you have little ones! When we were packed up we just stored our gas bottle in it.

Bring a flyswattter!
